Ogden
Research Scholarships are aimed at encouraging student research at the
undergraduate level. We wish to introduce the challenges and instill the
excitement of research into these scholars. It is our hope that the
excitement for research will carry on past their undergraduate education.
Scholars are introduced to the undergraduate research arena during their first
and second years. During their third and fourth years, scholars are
actively engaged in a research project with an
FIRST YEAR
·
Attend biweekly meetings with Ogden
Faculty for the entire year and the WKU Sigma Xi Conference in the Spring
Semester (two one page reports on presentations attended at the Sigma Xi
Conference)
SECOND YEAR
·
Enroll in course 295 (Introduction
to Research Methodology) for the Fall semester
·
Actively seek and become acquainted
with a research advisor and begin a research project during your second semester
·
Begin working on a research project
with an Ogden Faculty member during your spring semester
·
One to two page report on your
research progress signed by both you and your research advisor is due on the
last day of regular classes for the spring semester
THIRD YEAR
·
Working on a research project with
an Ogden Faculty member for both semesters
·
One to two page report on your
research progress signed by both you and your research advisor is due on the
last day of regular classes for both semesters
FOURTH YEAR
·
Working on a research project with
an Ogden Faculty member for both semesters
·
One to two page report on your
research progress signed by both you and your research advisor is due on the
last day of regular classes for both semesters
In addition to these third and fourth year requirements, we
encourage scholars to present at Western's Sigma Xi Research Conference.
Qualifications

ACT Composite scores in the 30s or
upper 20s
·
High School GPA of 3.8/4.0 or top 3%
of class
·
Kentucky Resident or attending a
·
How to apply
Nomination
forms must be completed by a science teacher or a guidance counselor. You
may download the nomination form and ask either your science teacher or a guidance counselor
to nominate you if you are eligible. A one page paper, described on
the nomination form, from the prospective scholar is also required. All
application materials are due by February 15, 2008.
